Dr. Peter J. Heffernan, director of IFDC’s Research and Development Division, has 30 years of experience spanning competitive intelligence, market research, strategic planning and enterprise valuation as well as business, economic and project analysis. He previously worked with IFDC as a corporate and private sector development expert with the U.S. Agency for International Development’s Feed the Future initiative.
Prior to joining IFDC, Heffernan held several director-level positions with Bunge North America, including director of agribusiness planning and development; director of planning and analysis for the oilseed processing division; and director of strategic planning. Bunge North America is a vertically integrated food and feed ingredient company, supplying raw and processed agricultural commodities and specialized food ingredients to a wide range of customers in the livestock, poultry and food industries. Heffernan also worked for IMC Global Inc. as the director of market and industry analysis; director of market analysis and product planning for IMC-Agrico; and manager of market research/hedging. Prior to becoming part of Mosaic, IMC Global was one of the world’s leading producers of crop nutrients for the international agricultural community.
Heffernan holds a doctorate and master’s degree in agricultural economics from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, USA. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and business economics from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA.
