Port Harcourt, Nigeria – An initiative in Rivers state, Nigeria, will help rural cassava farmers shift from subsistence to commercial farming. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was recently signed by the Dutch government, IFDC, Shell Petroluem Development Company and Union Bank.

The MOU called for the establishment of a cassava processing factory. According to the Dutch Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Berth Ronhar, this type of rural development will create opportunities for self-employment, food security, peace and stability in the state.
