Dr. Tom Hargrove, long-time agricultural communicator, passed away suddenly Jan. 23. Dr. Edwin C. Price, director of the Borlaug Institute and associate vice chancellor for international agriculture, writes that Hargrove was “the best and best-known international agricultural science writer and editor, ever.”

From September 2006 until his retirement in March 2009, Hargrove was coordinator of IFDC’s information and communications unit. He served as a consultant to a dozen international agricultural research centers, development banks and universities. He headed the public awareness and publications programs at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) from 1992 through 1995. From 1973 through 1991, Hargrove served as editor and then as information head of the International Rice Research Institute.
