Research results from the Maize Intensification in Mozambique (MIM) project have been published in the International Potash Institute’s Electronic International Fertilizer Correspondent (e-ifc).

The MIM project is implemented by IFDC with funding and in-kind technical support from the International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA), the International Plant Nutrition Institute (IPNI) and the International Potash Institute (IPI). The project’s goal is to demonstrate how farmers can intensify rain-fed maize production.

According to the report: “The preliminary results obtained from the 2009-2010 season from eight demonstration trials clearly show a significant yield increase (up to 200 percent) due to the use of NPKS fertilizer and use of a hybrid maize seed variety. Despite the fact that these improved agro-inputs are costly for local smallholder farmers, economic analysis showed a high benefit from their use.”
