President Barack Obama launched today the “New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition,” a new partnership to bring 50 million people out of poverty in the next ten years. The program will bring together governments, the donor community, non-governmental organizations, civil society groups and the private sector to build sustainable economic growth. To kick off the effort, 45 companies have pledged to invest more than $3 billion in Africa’s agricultural economy.

The Group of Eight will hold a special session on hunger at a summit at Camp David, Maryland, this weekend.
