SABMiller is among several private organizations contributing to the G8’s food security agenda.

According to Gerry J. van den Houten of SABMiller: “Sourcing directly from smallholder farmers and helping them improve their productivity and yields not only enables them to grow more, and better, food for their own families; but also gives them access to improved income, allowing them to buy food and other goods and services which has a positive knock-on effect for the local economy.”

IFDC and partner DADTCO are participating in an SABMiller program to locally source cassava from smallholder farmers in Mozambique for beer production. IFDC and DADTCO are helping farmers increase cassava production through improved agricultural practices and the use of mobile processing units that eliminate the need to transport the raw material long distances.
