In fulfillment of its strategic objective to increase regional availability and use of appropriate and affordable fertilizers for increased agricultural productivity in West Africa, the USAID-funded West Africa Fertilizer Program (USAID WAFP) regularly organizes regional fertilizer stakeholder forums to address key challenges facing the fertilizer sub-sector in West Africa in areas of supply and distribution, policy and regulatory reforms, appropriate usage as well as market information for good decision making. This enables all relevant actors at the regional and national levels to identify, discuss and find solutions to the problems faced by the industry.
As part of its activities for FY 14/15, USAID WAFP organized mini West Africa Fertilizer Stakeholder Forums in Abidjan and Dakar bringing together private fertilizer companies, government/public sector representatives, financial institutions, representatives of regional institutions and farmer organizations from nine West African Countries to chart a common course to improve fertilizer supply, distribution and use in West Africa.
