Jason Scarpone, president and CEO of the African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP), became a member of the IFDC board of directors in 2017. Scarpone is an international development specialist with more than 20 years of experience in the design, implementation, and management of economic recovery and agricultural development programs. He specializes in public-private partnerships and programs that boost smallholder farmer access to input and output markets.

Scarpone works closely with leading African development institutions (African Union, NEPAD Coordinating Agency, African Development Bank, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, and AGMARK) as well as country governments. These partnerships support and strengthen trade in agricultural inputs, valued at over $600 million annually.

Prior to his current position, Scarpone served as vice president of Africa Programs for Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA). He holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and urban studies from Northwestern University and a master’s degree in labor relations from New York University.
