The pilot plant complex includes three granulation plants, two phosphoric acid plants and one fluid fertilizer unit. The plants range in size from bench-scale to medium- and large-scale.
Projects and activities are conducted under contract and in collaboration with national and international research and development agencies, fertilizer trade associations, government institutions and private sector fertilizer manufacturers. Since 1978, the pilot plant has conducted more than 1,600 research and development tests. The pilot plant engineering staff collaborates with IFDC scientists to conduct research on the properties of various fertilizer materials and their production feasibility and works with IFDC economists to evaluate overall market feasibility.
