East and Southern Africa Division
Steven Humphreys is the acting director for IFDC’s East and Southern Africa Division. He also serves as the regional agribusiness advisor and portfolio manager in Nairobi, Kenya. He has 30 years of experience in the agribusiness sector in more than 70 countries in Africa and Europe and has worked in both the private and public sectors. He has extensive knowledge of market research, new product development, launch strategy processes, trade policy, warehouse receipts and commodity exchange systems.
Prior to joining IFDC, Humphreys served as a component leader for staple foods at Chemonics International Inc., where he managed a team of food security specialists responsible for providing technical and financial support to partner organizations in the region. He also held several key roles at Fintrac Inc. in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, including chief of party for the Agribusiness and Trade Expansion Program (ATEP), a USAID initiative aimed at strengthening private sector development. Other positions included chief executive at Zambia Export Growers Association (ZEGA), procurement/export manager at Saphir International (now Fisher Foods), export territory manager at Norbrook Laboratories Ltd. and area manager for Schering Agrochemicals Ltd.
Humphreys holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Imperial College (Wye), University of London, United Kingdom, and an MBA from the University of Kent, Canterbury, United Kingdom.
