Alain Sy Traoré was welcomed to IFDC in November 2025 as Director of the Soil Values program. He is an agronomist and agricultural development expert with more than 25 years of experience across West Africa.
Following his role at IFDC as National Agribusiness Advisor of the From Thousand to Millions (1000s+) project in Mali, he joined the ECOWAS Commission in Nigeria in 2008, where he served as Head of Division, Agribusiness and Value Chain Development for six years and as Director of Agriculture and Rural Development for 11 years. He provided strategic leadership in designing, coordinating, and implementing the ECOWAS Agricultural Policy.
Traoré holds advanced degrees, including a bachelor’s in biology from the Faculty of Sciences and Technics and a master’s in agronomy and rural development from the University of Ouagadougou.
