The Agricultural Value Chain Development Project in Guinea (PDCVA-G) is a five-year program (2021-2025) based in the Republic of Guinea with the primary objective of developing a sustainable agriculture sector by facilitating the transition from subsistence farming to a viable market-oriented system.
Through targeted training and capacity-building efforts, the project supports farmers and agribusiness actors across multiple crop sectors to increase productivity, improve market integration, and ensure long-term food security.

Expected Outcomes
- Increased rural incomes through improved agricultural productivity and market access.
- Enhanced food security for farming communities and surrounding populations.
- Successful transition from subsistence farming to sustainable, market-oriented agricultural practices.
- Strengthened capacity of farmers to engage in value chains and agribusiness opportunities.
- Improved resilience of farming systems through adoption of sustainable practices.
Key Activities
To achieve its goal of developing a sustainable, market-oriented agriculture sector in Guinea, the PDCVA-G project implemented a comprehensive capacity-building program tailored to the needs of smallholder farmers and agribusiness actors.
For example, the project focused on building the capacities of 80 agricultural stakeholders working in value chains for fruits, vegetables, cereals, tubers, and market gardening.
The project has also implemented the following training programs, facilitated by seven trainers who brought diverse expertise to the program:
- 18 training modules that covered essential topics such as the principles of integrated soil fertility management (ISFM) and the determination of optimum fertilizer doses.
- 10 training modules focused on approaches to agricultural intensification, marketing of agricultural products, and business planning for farmers and agri-entrepreneurs.
These achievements demonstrate the project’s potential to drive systemic change and foster a more resilient agriculture sector in Guinea.
PDCVA-G is funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and is implemented in close collaboration with Guinea’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Small and Medium Enterprises.
