The Value4Dairy project (2024-2027) is an initiative aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s dairy industry by improving production efficiency, strengthening cooperative models, and expanding market access.
Launched in response to the growing need for sustainable solutions in Nigeria’s dairy sector, the project focuses on improving local sourcing of raw milk across three critical states: Oyo, Osun, and Abuja Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
At its core, Value4Dairy seeks to enhance the livelihoods of smallholder dairy farmers, particularly women, while ensuring the delivery of nutritious dairy products to low-income consumers across the country.

Objectives
- Refine the dairy cooperative model for enhanced collaboration among Fulani milk producers.
- Mobilize an additional 30,000 Fulani milk producers, expanding dairy production capacity.
- Build the capacity of smallholder dairy farmers to improve productivity and sustainability.
- Empower women by creating economic opportunities within the dairy value chain.
- Develop and implement interventions to reach low-income consumers (those at the bottom of the pyramid, or BoP) with affordable, nutritious dairy products.
Expected Outcomes
The Value4Dairy project is a critical step toward achieving a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable dairy industry in Nigeria, driving economic growth and improving livelihoods. Expected outcomes from the project include:
- Strengthened dairy cooperatives that foster greater productivity and efficiency.
- Increased engagement of smallholder dairy farmers, contributing to a more robust dairy sector.
- Improved income and economic opportunities, particularly for women in the dairy value chain.
- Enhanced access to nutritious, affordable dairy products for low-income populations.
The Value4Dairy project is being implemented through a consortium led by Friesland Campina WAMCO and supported by the Gates Foundation, with IFDC serving as a key implementing partner.
