A letter in the Bangladesh newspaper The Daily Star urges farmers to use urea deep placement (UDP) technology to save money and increase crop yields.

UDP is the insertion of large urea briquettes (called “Guti” in Bangladesh) into the rice root zone after transplanting. UDP reduces fertilizer use by 40 percent while increasing crop yields by 20 percent.
