JUBA, Sudan – The soon-to-be new nation of South Sudan has set a target of increasing food production by two million metric tons over three years. The country’s agriculture strategy was revealed by Anne Itto, South Sudan’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.

In May 2011, a communiqué was signed by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the Kingdom of the Netherlands, IFDC and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) to formalize their joint commitment to food security and agricultural development in the country.
