MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala., United States – “A presidential order issued 35 years ago today gave a Shoals organization the teeth it needed to take a bite out of world hunger.
President Jimmy Carter signed an executive order March 14, 1977, designating the International Fertilizer Development Center of Muscle Shoals as a public international organization.
Amit Roy, president and CEO of IFDC, said the designation allowed the organization to solicit money from foreign governments, travel more freely abroad and transport supplies more easily into countries where its staff was working to help farmers grow more food by using fertilizer and then find markets for their crops.“
