Shamba Shape-Up, a reality television program in Kenya, is promoting best agricultural practices to rural farm families and helping them improve their small farms (‘shambas’). IFDC is among the show’s supporters.
According to farmer George Mungai, featured in the show’s first episode, “[The program] has taught me to practice better farming…I’ve learned to plant potatoes well … poultry keeping, dairy farming. It has almost doubled my yields.”
Both educational and entertaining, the make-over program is similar to Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, adapted to a rural environment. The show reaches about four million in Kenya.
