CropLife Uganda, CropLife Africa Middle East and IFDC are using mobile technology to prevent illegal and counterfeit agricultural products from entering the Ugandan crop protection market.

IFDC is testing and developing a short message service (SMS) scratch-based technology in which manufacturers print code numbers on products that are revealed after scratching off the top film. Then, the purchaser enters the code on their phone, and an automatic reply is generated back to the purchaser verifying product authenticity.
