Accra, Ghana – The Ghanaian government and foreign investors are discussing establishing a fertilizer production plant to utilize the byproducts from Ghana’s crude oil production, according to Maurice Tanco Abisa Seidu, chief director of Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture, during the launch of the USAID West Africa Fertilizer Program.
“Whether fertilizer is imported or produced locally, it is our responsibility to ensure that the fertilizer in the marketplace is of the highest quality and contains the right nutrients and is of the right bag weights to protect the farmer, the honest businessman and the environment,” said Seidu. “It is in this light that the government has passed the Plant and Fertilizer Act, 2012 (Act 803) and has set up the necessary Fertilizer Regulatory System.”
