Is Speculation Behind the Rise in Food Prices?

Food commodity speculation is often named as a primary cause for the rise in global food prices. However, a new study by researchers at the University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) has concluded that the most important factors behind the increase in prices are “avoiding political mistakes, promoting markets, and speeding up the transfer of technology.”
