IFDC Media Statement
For Immediate Release
Monday, March 31, 2014

(MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala.) Dr. Amit Roy, president and CEO of the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), issued the following statement on Monday, March 31, following the release of the latest report by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

“Uncertain climate equals uncertain harvests. Climate change affects food security, but it is happening at a quicker pace with substantially more drastic consequences than previously indicated.

“The world’s 500 million small farms are producing 80 percent of the developing world’s food. Smallholders need tools and training to combat climate risks. We must endeavor to train farmers in practices that improve their soils and provide agricultural innovations – such as drought-resistant seeds and more efficient fertilizers – that can reduce climate change’s potentially devastating impacts.”
