IFDC has released the second volume of Togo AgriMarket Insights under the Hydro-Agro-Meteorological Information System (SIHAM)/West Africa Food Systems Resilience Program (FSRP) program.
The SIHAM system helps smallholder farmers and other agricultural stakeholders access reliable weather forecasts, market information, advisory services, agricultural finance opportunities, and micro-insurance solutions. Through SIHAM/FSRP 2, these services have been expanded through digital platforms, agribusiness clusters, digikiosks, WhatsApp groups, and partnerships with service providers across Togo.
Volume 2 presents key updates on the SIHAM digital platform and its expanding dissemination network, which help make timely agricultural information more accessible to farming communities. The publication also examines agricultural commodity-price trends, drawing on monthly market data collected for more than 20 commodities across Togo’s 39 prefectures. This information supports greater market transparency and helps farmers, traders, and other value-chain actors make better-informed production, marketing, and investment decisions.
The publication also highlights progress in expanding access to Farmcover, an index-based agricultural micro-insurance solution offered through SIHAM’s partnership with Lorica Assurances. Covering crops including maize, soybean, rice, cassava, cashew, and vegetables, Farmcover helps protect farmers against losses associated with drought and excessive rainfall. During the first quarter of 2026, the SIHAM/FSRP 2 program disseminated 1,971 insurance-related messages through SMS and WhatsApp channels to raise awareness of available services.
Additionally, the publication highlights access to finance, helping to connect farmers, producer organizations, cooperatives, and other agricultural stakeholders with information on available financing opportunities through various partnerships with the program.
