Dr. Bidjokazo Fofana has been engaged in international development for over 30 years in the management and implementation of research and development programs in more than 18 African countries. Before joining IFDC, Fofana worked as the Director of Crop Productivity Enhancement for the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) at the regional office in Ethiopia from 2015 to 2021. From 2000 to 2015, he worked for IFDC as a Senior Soil Fertility Expert to effectively take Integrated Soil Fertility Management (ISFM)-, fertilizer deep placement-, and micro-dosing-related technologies to thousands of smallholder farmers in Africa with a particular focus on fragile desert margin zones.

His core research topics include soil fertility management, seed and fertilizer sector development, and agricultural extension strategies. Fofana is a reviewer of international peer scientific journals including Agriculture Ecosystems and Environment, Field Crops Research, Nutrient Cycling in Agro-ecosystems, and an author/co-author of more than 20 peer journal articles, 15 conference proceedings, and more than 35 publications in the form of books, manuals, and technical advisory notes. He holds a Ph.D in Soil Science from Georg-August-University of Göttingen and a Ph.D in Agronomy from Justus Liebig University of Giessen in Germany.
