Thomas G. Coon, vice chair, joined the IFDC board in 2021. Tom’s academic career has focused on aquatic ecosystems and the effect of land use practices on environmental quality as it affects aquatic organisms. His international work includes research and academic programs in South America, Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia. He has served in many university leadership roles, including Vice President of Agricultural Programs at Oklahoma State University; as Director of Michigan State University (MSU) Extension; Associate Dean for International Programs in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at MSU; and Chair of the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at MSU. He retired in 2023 and continues to serve on the boards of IFDC and other non-profit organizations. Dr. Coon received his Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California-Davis and served on the faculty at the University of Missouri before his move to MSU.
