Gilbert Buhanza is a seed agronomist with over 27 years of experience, including 21 years in the seed sector with expertise in seed certification. He joined IFDC in 2014, contributing first to the Integrated Seed Sector Development in the Sahel (ISSD/Sahel) project, and currently coordinates the second phase of the Private Seed Sector Development (PSSD) project in Burundi.

Prior to IFDC, Buhanza held technical leadership roles in Burundi’s Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Livestock, including overseeing the national seed analysis laboratory at ONCCS and managing departments focused on seed programming and certification. He has completed specialized training in seed inspection and certification in China, Kenya, and Uganda and has collaborated with international partners such as FAO, IFAD, and World Vision to advance seed sector development.
