Across the Sahel, declining soil fertility, land degradation, climate change, pressure on natural resources, and competition over land and water continue to undermine agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods. For many farmers, these challenges are also shaped by gender inequalities, social exclusion, unequal access to resources, and power dynamics.

The Soil Values program is organizing a webinar entitled “People, Power, and Soil: Applying GESI and Conflict Sensitivity in Integrated Landscape Management.” The session will explore how Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) and conflict sensitivity can be practically incorporated into Integrated Landscape Management (ILM) and sustainable soil fertility interventions.

Drawing on program experiences, institutional perspectives, and cross-program collaboration, the webinar will highlight practical approaches to promoting inclusive decision-making, equitable access to resources, conflict-sensitive interventions, and sustainable landscape management.

Date: Thursday, September 10

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., GMT

Format: Online via Microsoft Teams

Language: Bilingual (French and English, with interpretation provided)

Participants will gain insights into:

  • Moving from GESI strategies and commitments to practical action in soil fertility and landscape interventions.
  • Creating an enabling policy and institutional environment for GESI.
  • Reviewing lessons from the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project on integrating GESI into landscape restoration, climate resilience, and natural resource management.
  • Identifying opportunities for cross-program learning, collaboration, and scaling.

The webinar will bring together Soil Values staff and partners, government institutions, development programs, civil society organizations, research institutions, and practitioners working on GESI, conflict sensitivity, ILM, soil health, climate resilience, and sustainable agrifood systems.
